Thread: SMall pin hole on top of piston. Is it still Good?

Default SMall pin hole on top of piston. Is it still Good?

Ok i took my motor to a local machine shop to clean up for me. When i got everything back i notice a small pin hole on one of the pistons. Look like pin holes when u sand body filler. Would i still be able to use them or do i have to buy new pistons?

A piston builds combustion to run a motor, so what do ya think a hole in one of your pistons is going to do? Looks like ya caught it on time, but time for a new piston.

does the hole go through? how deep is it? I would not be concerned about the hole itself (assuming its less than .050ish deep), i would be more concerned about it busting apart in the future...

Is I a hole all of the way through the piston? It doesn't look like it to me. A piece o sand probably got into the intake and bounced around in there. If it isn't a hole through the piston it should be fine.
Ah yes VTEC, all of the lag with none of the turbo.

I assumed it was all the way through.. If it isnt, it should be allright. Me personally I would still replace it, esp. since ya have it all torn down.

Doesn't a piston build compression, on the compression stroke? It just provides a combustion chamber.
For the time that I have been given, I am what I am....

Its not all the way through but if u put it up close to u, u can see it digging through. Eventually there will be a hole through it. Guess i have to waste more money then thx you all just wanted a second opinion.

The cylinder provides the combustion chamber. But the piston itself on the stroke from the rod is what creates the compression.

Its the most punished part of your engine, better to be safe than sorry.

I am pretty sure this is exactly what I said in my other post. You just reworded it. lol

I would be better safe then sorry, as well, and just get a new piston. I mean, a stock piston can't cost that much, can it?

You basically said what I had said in the 1st place. Why the questions?

Okay, this is getting annoying, Hove. Sorry to the OP

A piston builds compression, not "builds combustion." You also never said anything about compression in you first post. With the piston in the cylinder, then the combustion chamber is complete along with the cylinder and head. So I said, "a piston provides the combustion chamber." So no, what I said is completely different from what you said. Then you took what I said and reworded it.

    Sorry again to the OP.

That's something I'd have an engine machinist look at. As long as they're experienced and know the application (should it be boosted or not), they should be able to tell you if it wil be fine, can be worked out with some light machining, or if it should be replaced.

As for all of the poor grammar, poor wording, etc....You fools need to pick up a book from time to time. Good grief.
